Cops teach chess as a game of life

The Chess Club and Scholastic Center of St. Louis, St. Louis Public Schools and St. Louis police launched St. Louis CHESS Cops, or the Cops Helping Enhance Student Skills program at Gateway Middle School Wednesday to pair police officers with inner city students to teach them the game of chess. So far, eight officers have volunteered to spend an hour a week teaching kids the game. Organizers hope to expand the program to all public schools, pairing officers with schools in the districts they patrol.
